killed,
brother injured in car crash Sept. 2, 2009 Steve Fillo, a sophomore at the University of Alabama and a member of the Alabama Hockey team, died early morning Sunday, Aug. 30 due to injuries caused by a one-car accident after the team’s training camp concluded Saturday Aug. 29. In the car along with Fillo, was his brother, Joey, who was set to be a freshman at UA and was trying out for the team. Joey sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will return to their home-state of Colorado. He is expected to make a full recovery. In 11 games played last season, Steve notched 3 goals and 3 assists. On Nov. 22 of last season against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, down 4 goals heading into the third period, Steve scored the game-tying goal to help guide the Frozen Tide to a come-from-behind victory. The thoughts and prayers of the Alabama Hockey family are with the Fillo family and with Joey during this time of despair.
